INSPECTIONS
Here at High Ropes Builders we don't just build Ropes Courses and Climbing Walls, we also inspect them too!
As the Operator of any ropes course or climbing wall, you are legally responsible for ensuring that your facility is safe and fit for purpose. This means ensuring the following inspections take place:
ROUTINE VISUAL CHECK
A routine visual check is to be carried out by an appropriately trained staff member from your team prior to the start of each session. This inspection is aimed at ensure the course if safe to use and identify anything has changed since the last use.
For example vandalism, tree or branch issues, damage caused by adverse weather etc.
OPERATIONAL INSPECTION
An operational inspection is a more in-depth inspection carried out by a qualified staff member or independent inspection organisation such as High Ropes Builders. This is usually carried out every 1 - 3 months (depending on manufacturers' recommendations) and includes detailed assessment of wear on the course and any moving parts.
PERIODICAL INSPECTION
A periodical inspection is an operational, visual and functional inspection of a facility, carried out by a qualified and experienced staff member or independent inspection organisation such as High Ropes Builders. This must be carried out every 12 months.
The inspection will cover every inch of your course and looks at the construction, function test of equipment, verifies that your inspection logs (including PPE) are up to date, and sets a timescale for replacing any worn components identified.
PPE INSPECTION
A PPE Inspection by a trained 'competent person' on your team, or from an independent organisation such as High Ropes Builders, must be carried out every 6 months in accordance with LOLER and PUWER* Regulations. This will look at every item of PPE in detail, checking for wear or damage, and removing it from use if necessary.
